The Dominican Republic, with a climate described as an “endless summer”, is known for its warm weather and its warm people. Located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles. The island is split between the Dominican Republic and Haiti with the Dominican Republic occupying about two thirds of the island.
Despite being rather small, the Dominican Republic has such a vast geographical diversity for its size. With extensive mountain ranges that transverse the country from the Northwest to the Southeast, this terrain is rugged with high peaks and fertile, long valleys. Much of the Eastern part of the Island is flat with hundreds and hundreds of extensive coastlines with white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water. The Dominican Republic also boasts beautiful evergreen highlands and fascinating swampy lowlands, both with their own unique natural ecosystems.
Discovered in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, this Country overflows with fascinating history and a substantial number of cultural experiences, such as music, art, festivals, and traditional Dominican specialties, such as Sancocho or Tostones.
And for the Animal lovers out there, there are few places in the world that offer the opportunity to marvel at humpback whale calves swimming with their mothers, but the Samaná Peninsula is one of them. Every year from January until the end of March, nearly the entire humpback whale population of the North Atlantic Ocean congregate in the bay of Samaná. In these warm and protected coastal waters, the pairing as well as the birth of the whale calves takes place.
